One family. Eight musicians. Pure energy.
AfroGrooves is a tight-knit family of musicians from around the world, based in Amsterdam, united by a shared love for Afrobeat. Their sound combines West African music with funk, jazz and hip-hop.
The collective started in 2018 as an informal monthly jam session and quickly stood out in Amsterdam through its large eight-piece house band, tight horn lines, powerful percussion breaks and open, improvisational energy.
Their repertoire draws on danceable music by Fela Kuti’s Afrika 70, Antibalas and Bixiga 70, shaped by Amsterdam’s diverse music scene. They have performed at Kwaku Festival, ADE, Ruigoord Landjuweel, Hemeltjelief, Copacobana Festival and venues including Melkweg, Paradiso, Cinetol, Doka and Pakhuis de Zwijger.
